…Says ultimate political decisions rest with party leadership

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has clarified that while he has no plans to retire from politics, he recognises that life extends beyond public service.

Obasa made the remark during a live broadcast of the television programme Beyond Politics on Thursday, addressing questions about his future political ambitions and the possibility of contesting for the governorship.

“No. What next? Life. I’ve just said, you know, there’s life ahead. So let’s contemplate living that life,” he stated.

The Speaker stressed that while political ambition is natural, ultimate decisions are determined by party leadership.

He added: “When we talk about politics, you have to be a member of a political party. And as a member, you must believe in the leadership of that party. At some point, you cannot determine what’s next for you on your own. Of course, you may aspire to become something, but you still have to respect the party and how it is managed.”

He further outlined the importance of consultation and alignment with party processes for political positions.

He said that roles such as Speaker, Deputy Governor, Governor, or Senator are subject to party deliberations.

Obasa also described his relationship with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as cooperative and focused on advancing Lagos State’s development.

“He’s my brother, my colleague, my partner in progress. We’ve been together for a long time. Some of the people see us as a legacy, and we’re still doing it. He has been very active, working hard, serving the people,” the Speaker added.
