The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has officially confirmed it received a petition from billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote against the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed.
According to a statement issued by ICPC spokesperson John Odey on Tuesday, the petition was submitted through Dangote’s legal representative earlier in the day and will be subjected to thorough investigation.
“The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission confirms the receipt of a formal petition today, Tuesday, 16th December 2025, from Alhaji Aliko Dangote through his lawyer. The petition is against the CEO of the NMDPRA, Alhaji Farouk Ahmed,” the statement read.
Dangote, through his lawyer, Ogwu Onoja, SAN, accused Ahmed of corruption and misappropriation of public funds. The petition alleges that over $7 million in public money was spent on the education of Ahmed’s four children at elite Swiss schools, with fees reportedly paid upfront for six years.
“That Engr Farouk Ahmed spent, without evidence of lawful income, a humongous amount of over $7 million of public funds on the education of his four children in various schools in Switzerland for a period of six years upfront,” the petition stated.
The businessman further urged the ICPC to investigate the matter urgently and prosecute Ahmed if found culpable, highlighting that the allegations have already gained public attention.
This development adds fuel to the ongoing tensions between Dangote’s refinery operations and the regulatory body overseeing Nigeria’s petroleum sector, marking another chapter in a high-profile dispute within the industry.
ICPC has pledged to conduct a comprehensive review of the claims, stressing the importance of due process and transparency in handling the petition.
