Former Ogun State Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, has declared that he has never interfered in governance despite his relationship with the current Ogun state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
In an interview seen by NewsDirect, Chief Osoba noted asserted that his contributions to the state’s history require no active defense or interference in current governance.
The veteran statesman provided a rare look into his harmonious relationship with the incumbent, Prince Dapo Abiodun, setting it apart from the often-turbulent godfather-godson dynamics typical of Nigerian politics.
Osoba characterized his bond with Governor Abiodun as spanning beyond a political mentorship, describing it as a familial connection where he relates to the Governor as both a father figure and an uncle.
He attributed the absence of tension to a deliberate and disciplined decision to abstain from the day-to-day administration of the state.
According to the former Governor, the stability of their relationship is rooted in his refusal to impose his will on the executive branch.
Osoba revealed that at no point during the current administration has he suggested political appointments, pressured the Governor regarding nominations, or attempted to sway governance decisions.
“I recognize Governor Abiodun as the Chief Executive and the ‘father of the state,’” Osoba stated, emphasizing that he accords the Governor full institutional respect.
He noted that this respect is consistently reciprocated, creating a foundation of mutual understanding that allows the current administration to function without external friction.
Osoba’s reflections offer a blueprint for political transitions and post-office conduct in Nigeria.
He maintained that the peace observed in Ogun State’s political circle is a result of respecting institutional roles.
He commended the Governor’s willingness to follow progressive footsteps while emphasizing that non-interference is the most effective way to sustain harmony.
Concluding his remarks, the elder statesman noted that his primary interest remains the progress of Ogun State.
By allowing the Governor the space to lead independently, Osoba believes he is fostering an environment where effective governance can thrive, ensuring that the next chapter of the state’s history is written without the shadows of administrative overreach.
