The Benue State Police Command has successfully repelled an attack by suspected armed herdsmen on Awanse community in Kwande Local Government Area, while also rescuing an abducted woman unharmed.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edet Udeme, the assailants invaded the community, firing sporadically. However, police teams responded swiftly, engaging the attackers and forcing them to flee the scene.
No lives were lost in the Awanse incident, and the rescued woman was unhurt. Peace has since been restored in the area.
In a related development, the command provided an update on a recent incident in Abende community. During ongoing search and combing operations, five additional bodies were recovered, raising the total number of fatalities to ten.
The general security situation in the affected areas remains calm, with intensive patrols, surveillance, and monitoring in place.
The Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, assured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property. He emphasized that all necessary measures are being sustained to prevent further attacks and ensure perpetrators are brought to justice.
