Gov.Yusuf merges Kano Education Ministries to cut costs

In a decisive move to streamline governance and accelerate sector-wide reforms, Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the merger of the Ministry of Higher Education with the Ministry of Education.

The restructuring, announced on Sunday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, aims to eliminate the duplication of responsibilities and reduce the overall cost of governance.

Under the new arrangement, the combined entity will function simply as the Ministry of Education. To ensure that tertiary institutions receive specialized attention, a new Directorate of Higher Education has been established within the ministry.

This directorate will be headed by a Permanent Secretary and will oversee the management of state-owned universities and other higher education institutes.

The restructuring also dictates that all agencies previously under the defunct Ministry of Higher Education, including the State Scholarship Board, will return to the central Ministry of Education.

Governor Yusuf stated that these reforms are critical for improving policy coordination across all levels of learning and enhancing accountability within the administration.

The Governor reiterated his administration's commitment to reviving the state’s education sector to secure a brighter future for the youth.

To facilitate a smooth transition, the Office of the Secretary to the State Government and the Office of the Head of Service have been directed to oversee the immediate and seamless realignment of the affected departments and personnel.
