FG inaugurates leadership team for newly established Tertiary institutions

The Federal Government has officially inaugurated the leadership teams for several newly established federal tertiary institutions, marking a strategic pivot toward specialized education aimed at solving Nigeria’s most pressing economic and social challenges.
During a ceremony held on Thursday at the Federal Ministry of Education, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, swore in the principal officers for the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe, and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic, Abuja.
The event also saw the inauguration of new leadership for the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).
Addressing the new appointees, Dr. Alausa emphasized that these institutions are not merely additions to the nation's academic catalog but are designed as hubs for research and practical innovation.
He noted that the schools were strategically placed to develop homegrown solutions for global and national crises, specifically citing food security, climate change, renewable energy, and rapid technological advancement.
The Minister’s charge extended beyond the new campuses to the very foundation of the Nigerian school system, teacher education. By revitalizing the NCCE, the government aims to enforce stricter governance and higher academic benchmarks across all colleges of education.
Dr. Alausa underscored that the quality of Nigeria’s graduates begins with the quality of their instructors, tasking the commission to ensure the nation’s teacher training remains globally competitive.
This move is part of a broader federal policy to expand access to higher education while simultaneously tightening institutional oversight.
According to Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry, the inauguration represents a commitment to advancing policies that enhance the global competitiveness of the sector.
The Ministry of Education has indicated that this new leadership cohort is expected to hit the ground running, ensuring that these institutions transition quickly from administrative setups to active centers of learning and innovation.
