The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has underscored the indispensable role of the media in advancing the university’s institutional reputation and long-term development.
Speaking on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, during the university’s annual Iftar hosted at his official residence, Prof. Egbewole described the press as a critical partner in the institution's progress.
The Ramadan gathering served as a platform for fostering closer ties between the university leadership and stakeholders, including staff union representatives, international students, and members of the press.
Prof. Egbewole lauded journalists for their constructive engagement and consistent support, noting that the relationship between the media and the university has strengthened significantly over time.
He expressed his appreciation for their presence, emphasizing that such interactions are vital for deepening mutual understanding across the academic community.
The event also featured a spiritual reflection led by the Deputy Chief Imam of the University, Prof. Musa Sidiq Abdullahi, who delivered a sermon on behalf of the Chief Imam, Prof. Nasir AbdusSalam.
Prof. Abdullahi reminded the faithful that Ramadan is a period for self-discipline, increased devotion, and spiritual renewal rather than mere physical abstinence.
He urged the university community and the public to utilize the final ten days of the holy month to engage more deeply in prayer, Quranic recitation, and seeking forgiveness.
Furthermore, he advised believers to minimize distractions, specifically citing social media, to fully reap the spiritual benefits of the season.
The event concluded with special intercessory prayers for peace, prosperity, and progress for the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, and Nigeria at large.
