Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced a donation of N50 million towards the establishment of a Technology Innovation Hub at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
The Governor made the announcement on Saturday at the Mamman Kontagora Square during the university’s 45th Convocation Ceremony.
The event also saw the former Minister of Finance and Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, conferred with an Honorary Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) degree in recognition of her global leadership and public service.
Governor Yusuf explained that the N50 million donation is designed to support a partnership between the Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Foundation (NOI Foundation) and AMA Pharmaceuticals Limited.
He stated that the initiative aligns with his administration’s agenda to prioritize youth empowerment, skills acquisition, and education.
“This gesture aligns with our people-centred agenda, which prioritises education and the empowerment of young people,” Governor Yusuf said.
He lauded the NOI Foundation for its impactful interventions in leadership training and commended Alhaji Musa Abdullahi Bello of AMA Pharmaceuticals for spearheading the hub’s establishment.
Highlighting the strong bond between the state and the institution, the Governor noted that approximately 6,000 indigent students from Kano are currently pursuing their studies at ABU.
He expressed optimism that the new hub would enhance research and entrepreneurship opportunities for these students and the broader university community.
The Vice-Chancellor of ABU, Professor Adamu Ahmad, and the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, both commended Governor Yusuf for his sustained investment in the education sector and his commitment to improving learning outcomes in Northern Nigeria.
