The Kwara State Government has directed the reopening of schools across the Northern and Southern senatorial districts of the state, effective Monday, February 2, 2026.

The decision follows the forced closure of educational institutions in these areas due to heightened activities of bandits and kidnappers.

The State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, announced the directive in a statement issued in Ilorin over the weekend.

He confirmed that school authorities have been notified to resume academic activities, citing a significant improvement in the security landscape.

“The government deems the situation now to be a lot better than it was before. Even so, we continue to maintain vigilance,” the Commissioner stated.

Dr. Olohungbebe assured parents and stakeholders that security operations are continuing steadily to sustain the gains recorded in recent weeks.

He added that the state government is actively building community resilience alongside ongoing kinetic military efforts to neutralize threats to the public.

The affected districts had faced severe security challenges, prompting the relocation of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Ibadan, to Kwara State to coordinate operations and checkmate the criminal elements terrorizing the region.
