The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, has commended the current leadership of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for its focus on tangible development.

Wike gave the commendation during the commissioning of the 9.4-kilometre Ogu Community Road Network and a 1,500-seater Royal Hall in Ogu, Ogu-Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Speaking at the inauguration, Wike noted that the projects were clear demonstrations of the Federal Government’s resolve to develop the Niger Delta.

He expressed satisfaction with the quality of the infrastructure, attributing the success to the synergy between the NDDC Managing Director and the Executive Director of Finance and Administration.

“I am overwhelmed by the current level of development in Ogu, facilitated by the NDDC. I have seen the network of concrete roads with drainages and I am impressed,” Wike stated. “This is the first time I am participating in the activities of the NDDC, and this is because I am satisfied with the performance of the current leadership. They have demonstrated that they are working for the people.”

The NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, described the projects as dividends of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to changing the narrative in the oil-producing region by engaging stakeholders to ensure harmony and owning the development process.

Providing technical details, Engr. Gbenga Omowale, the NDDC Director of Project Monitoring, explained that the road network consists of 9.45km of rigid pavement with extensive drainage systems connecting Ogu to neighbouring villages.

The 1,500-seater Royal Hall is equipped with state-of-the-art acoustic walls, fire safety systems, and modern cooling units.

The Chairman of the Ogu Divisional Council of Chiefs, Chief Lawrence Egbelekpeke, expressed the community’s gratitude, noting that the projects would significantly improve socio-economic conditions in the area.
