Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has formally tendered his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), confirming his switch to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The resignation letter, dated December 29, 2025, and addressed to the Ward Chairman of Ampang West Ward in Mangu Local Government Area, was officially received by the ward leadership on December 30, 2025.
The timing of the letter confirms that Governor Mutfwang had already aligned with the APC before formally exiting the party that brought him to power in 2023.
The APC had earlier announced Mutfwang’s defection on December 18, 2025, during its 14th National Caucus meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
At the time, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda celebrated the move, declaring that the entire North-Central geopolitical zone is now under APC governance.
In his resignation letter, Mutfwang expressed gratitude to the PDP for the platform it provided him.
“I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me with the political platform to participate in the democratic process. I acknowledge the support of party leaders, members, and supporters at all levels during my time in the party,” he wrote.
He cited prevailing political realities and a commitment to effective service delivery as the primary reasons for his decision to seek a new platform.
Mutfwang’s defection sees him joining a growing list of governors including those from Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Enugu who have crossed over to the ruling party ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
