..Insists he remains uninformed of disciplinary action
Former Ogun State Governor and serving Senator for Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, has firmly dismissed reports of his suspension by the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that he has yet to receive any official correspondence on the matter.
Daniel’s media aide, Steve Oliyide, told journalists on Wednesday that no letter or formal notification had been served on the senator regarding allegations of anti-party activities or the purported disciplinary action.
“Senator Daniel has not received any official communication concerning the allegations of anti-party activities or the reported suspension,” Oliyide stated, stressing that the senator would only engage with the party once duly notified.
The controversy emerged shortly after the Ogun APC announced the indefinite suspension of Daniel and another party member, Kunle Folarin. The move followed recommendations from disciplinary committees constituted by Ward 4 and Ward 6 in Sagamu Local Government Area.
APC spokesperson Nuberu Olufemi explained that the committees accused the two men of misconduct and anti-party behaviour, noting that both allegedly ignored invitations to appear before the panels to defend themselves.
In a statement ratifying the decision, the state APC chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, described the suspension as a necessary step to preserve the integrity of the party’s disciplinary process and allow investigations to proceed without obstruction.
Sanusi disclosed that the committees relied on witness testimony and documentary submissions, further alleging that Daniel and Folarin sought to intimidate members and exert pressure on them to withdraw petitions.
“The committees resolved to suspend the members indefinitely, pending further investigation and the outcome of the inquiry,” Sanusi added.
Daniel, however, maintains that he remains committed to transparency and accountability, reiterating his willingness to respond appropriately once he has been formally informed by the party’s leadership.
