FRSC confirms two killed in Ogun road crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, has confirmed the death of two persons in a road crash at Leme along the Abeokuta-Ibadan Expressway.

The crash, which occurred at about 5:45 p.m. on Monday, involved a black Lexus car with registration number KJA 398 JR and a black TVS motorcycle with registration number AYT 837 QU.

The Ogun State FRSC Public Education Officer, SRC Afolabi Odunsi, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Abeokuta, noting that six adult males were involved in the accident, while no survivor sustained injuries.

According to him, FRSC rescue operatives responded promptly to a distress call received at about 5:50 p.m. and arrived at the scene within five minutes to carry out rescue operations.

Odunsi attributed the crash to speed violation, describing excessive speeding as one of the leading causes of fatal road crashes across the country.

He said the corps evacuated the victims, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the State Hospital, Ijaye Mortuary.

The FRSC spokesperson added that personal belongings recovered from the victims, including an identity card and a Tecno mobile phone, had been secured, while the obstruction caused by the crash was cleared to restore the free flow of traffic along the highway.

Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Sector Commander, CC Oludare Ogunjobi, commiserated with the families of the deceased and urged motorists, particularly drivers and motorcyclists, to comply with speed limits and traffic regulations.

He stressed that speeding significantly reduces drivers reaction time and increases the severity of road crashes, reaffirming the command’s commitment to safer roads through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment campaigns and prompt rescue services.

Ogunjobi also appealed to road users to avoid dangerous driving practices and exercise greater caution to reduce avoidable loss of lives on the nation’s highways.
