The Federal Government has completed 135 road projects across Northern Nigeria as part of its efforts to improve transportation and economic development in the region, the Minister of Transport, Sai’du Alkali, has revealed.

Speaking at a two-day interactive session in Kaduna, Alkali said the road projects were aimed at enhancing the movement of goods and people across the region. He noted that 216 additional road construction projects are currently ongoing, alongside 50 maintenance works. Over 312 road maintenance projects have already been completed.

The session, themed ‘Accessing Electoral Promises: Fostering Government-Citizens’ Engagement for National Unity’, was hosted by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation.

Alkali highlighted several major projects underway, including the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway, Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, Calabar–Abuja Superhighway, and the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe Road. In the Federal Capital Territory, 14 road projects have been completed, in addition to the Greater Abuja Water Supply Network Project and the commissioning of three world-class bus terminals.

He added that President Bola Tinubu has approved the construction of mega bus terminals in each geopolitical zone of the country, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The minister also announced that financing has been secured for the entire Aba–Maiduguri corridor, connecting several states including Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Plateau, Kaduna, Nasarawa, and Benue. Additionally, the government has rehabilitated the old Lagos–Kano Narrow Gauge and restored freight services linking Apapa to the Kano Inland Dry Port.
