Senate President Godswill Akpabio has clarified that the immense responsibilities of the presidency prevented President Bola Tinubu from personally attending the inauguration of several landmark projects in Lagos.
Speaking on Wednesday at the commissioning of the Opebi-Ojota Link Bridge and the Lagos State e-GIS complex, Akpabio addressed remarks by the Chairman of the Governor’s Advisory Council, Tajudeen Olusi, who had expressed a desire to see the President at the event.
Akpabio noted that since the nation had collectively entrusted Tinubu with the presidency, it must be understood that his global and national duties sometimes limit his availability for state-level engagements.
Justifying his selection as the President’s representative, Akpabio highlighted his deep personal connection to Lagos, noting that he has been a resident of the state for over three decades.
He remarked that as someone intimately familiar with the geography of Opebi and Allen, he was well-positioned to attest to the state’s transformation and relay that significance to a national audience.
He described the new infrastructure as a bridge to opportunities that would resonate far beyond the borders of Lagos.
