Easter: LASTMA deploys 500 personnel, equipment across Lagos

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said it had deployed 500 personnel and equipment to strategic locations across the state for traffic management during the Easter celebration.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos.

Bakare-Oki said the personnel, traffic equipment and towing vans were deployed last week.

“They’ve been deployed  to strategic locations for easy operation.
“We pin-point areas that are prone to traffic, all major churches around Lagos, event centres, markets that will witness high volume of people, like Mile 12 market, Alaba, Lagos Island and major shopping malls,” he said.

He said the strategic deployment had yielded results, as the personnel were able to divert traffic in areas that  recorded accidents like Lekki and Agege Motor Road.

He added that LASTMA officers responded promptly and restored normalcy to the affected areas.

Bakare-Oki said equipment such as safety barriers and cones were strategically placed in areas that could help personal manage and redirect traffic whenever necessary.
“I appealed to the motoring public to always adhere to traffic rules and regulations so that issues of road crashes can be minimal,” he said.
