Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri has said that he is satisfied with the pace and quality of ongoing infrastructure projects across the state, describing them as “progressing satisfactorily” and on course for timely delivery.

According to a statement on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, Diri made known his fulfillment while touring several major projects on Thursday.

The Governor assessed the ambitious 25,000-capacity stadium under construction at Igbogene, the strategic Yenagoa-Oporoma-Ukubie road, and the vital bridge works at Angiama.

He also inspected the Otuan community spur in Southern Ijaw, phase one of the Okaba-Okodi road in Ogbia, phase three of the Glory Drive, the Epie creek bridge at Imgbi junction in Yenagoa, and the Polaku-Sabagreia road linking Kolokuma/Opokuma and Yenagoa LGAs.

Speaking after the inspection, Governor Diri revealed his delight at the contractors’ commitment and assured Bayelsans that delivery deadlines remain firmly in place.

He said, “I am impressed and I believe the contractors will meet the dates they agreed with the government.

“The projects are all going on very well as expected and their delivery dates still stand. I commend the contractors for putting in their best.

“At the end of the day, we will deliver our objectives to the people of our state.”

The visibly pleased Diri recounted a symbolic moment when he and his convoy drove to Otuan, a community he had last accessed only by boat, calling it a testament to his administration’s pledge to open up rural Bayelsa.

He said:

“We visited the bridge project at Angiama leading to Oporoma. We all saw the spur to Otuan and Oporoma. We went to the Akaba-Okodi road, the final phase of the Glory Drive, which is phase three, and then the stadium project.”

He also confirmed that the government was not indebted to any contractor, with payments up to date, a point echoed by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Moses Teibowei, who praised the ministry’s regular oversight for ensuring adherence to project standards.

Mr. Dagogo Emmanuel, Business Manager of MCC Group, which is handling the stadium project, confirmed that materials are already on-site and piling is underway.

According to Emmanuel, full construction will ramp up soon, with plans to achieve substantial progress before the rainy season sets in.
