Ondo govt approves dualisation of Akure-Idanre road, renovation of schools and technical colleges

The Ondo State Executive Council, led by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the construction and dualisation of the major road linking Akure, the state capital, with Idanre.

This was contained in a statement on Friday signed by Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, following the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting held on Tuesday, April 16, 2025, at the Governor’s Office in Akure.

The dualisation project will begin with the first phase covering 10 kilometers, from the Arakale/Oke Aro Junction to KM 10 along the Akure-Idanre road.

The project is part of the administration’s broader commitment to enhancing connectivity, safety, and access across Ondo State.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Abiola Olawoye, announced that the EXCO also approved several education and infrastructure projects aimed at modernizing learning environments and boosting community development.

As part of the education sector upgrades, the council approved the renovation of both male and female hostels at Unity Secondary School in Epinmi Akoko. Additionally, four classroom blocks will be constructed at A.U.D. in Akungba Akoko to address classroom shortages. In Owo, the SS1 block at Unity Secondary School will be renovated, alongside the male and female hostels at the same school.

To enhance school security, a perimeter fence will be constructed at Ejioba High School in Oba Ile, Akure North Local Government Area. Also in Akure, six classroom blocks at African Church Comprehensive High School in Alagbaka will undergo renovation to improve learning conditions. In Idanre, four new classroom blocks will be constructed at Idanre High School in Alade.

Further south in Ondo East, the Science Laboratory block at Ekimogun Grammar School in Bolorunduro will be renovated. In Okitipupa Local Government Area, Ikoya Grammar School will receive four new classroom blocks, while the female hostel at Unity Secondary School in Ode-Aye will also be renovated to improve boarding facilities.

In the riverine areas of Ilaje, several projects were approved to uplift schools in hard-to-reach communities. These include the construction of four classroom blocks at Community High School in Ode Mahin, Laje Grammar School in Atijire, and Igi Moni Community Girls School in Ebutte-Ipare. The EXCO also approved the renovation of selected buildings and new construction across all technical colleges in Ondo State under the BATVE initiative, aimed at revitalizing vocational and technical education.

Beyond education, the EXCO sanctioned additional infrastructure projects. These include the construction of the Omuro International Market at Ode-Ugbo to boost local commerce, the building of a concrete sedimentation tank at Aboto to improve water infrastructure, and the development of concrete landing walkways across various communities in Ilaje and Ese Odo Local Government Areas to enhance accessibility.

Just as the government is improving school infrastructure, it is also modernising public spaces, with the approval of the upgrading and vertical enhancement of Fasoranti Park in Alagbaka, Akure. Just as state departments are being strengthened, the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure will be equipped with new laboratory equipment for its Quality Control Department.

Just as urban residential needs continue to grow, the council has approved the construction of 32 terraced four-bedroom apartments in Alagbaka, Akure, to provide more housing options for residents and public servants.

Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration has continued to prioritise infrastructural renewal and human capital development as central pillars of governance. The latest approvals underscore a state-wide commitment to sustainable development, educational improvement, and inclusive growth.
