The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has trained 112 staff-members on INEC Voter Enrollment Device (IVED), ahead of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) commencing in the state on Monday.

News Men report that the trainees were mostly Registration Area Officers, Assistant Electoral Officers and Registration Officers drawn from the 27 Local Government Areas of the state.

Addressing the participants, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Imo, Prof. Sylvia Agu, said the training would beequip them with knowledge, skills, and professional orientation required to perform their responsibilities effectively.

“The commission is committed to maintaining the integrity of our elections, and that process begins with a credible voter register, the bedrock of any democratic system.

“This training has been meticulously structured into comprehensive modules, each tailored to cover the full spectrum of the CVR process,” Agu said.

She said the training would cover the principles and management of the CVR process, CVR materials and centre setup of the IVED machine, CVR procedures, and display of preliminary register, and claims and objections.

The REC said: “Let me emphasise, your role is not just technical, it is also transformational.

“Every citizen you register is one more voice empowered to shape the future of our nation.

“Every voter who receives their PVC because of your diligence is a step toward consolidating our democracy.

“You are hereby charged to perform your duties with excellence, patience, and the highest level of accountability,” Agu said.

She further urged them to be courteous to all registrants, especially the elderly, persons with disabilities, and first-time voters.

She underscored the need for them to uphold the oath of neutrality and not compromise the process under any circumstances.

“Don’t take our machines to the private house of anybody outside the LGA and registration centres.

“You should not give your password to anyone. If you do, you will face consequences,” she warned.

The REC commended the commission’s effort in providing the state office with thorough training framework.

She expressed the confidence that by the end of the programme, participants would be competent, confident, and committed to the successful execution of the CVR in your respective centres.

She appealed to those yet to register, and those with challenges on the PVC to take advantage of the CVR.

Agu assured residents that security arrangements had been put in place to secure staff members, materials and the general public.

News Men further report that the CVR commenced online nationwide on Aug. 28, while that of the in-person will commence on Aug. 25.

The exercise is billed to hold in three phases with the first phase ending on December 10, while the second phase will hold from Jan. 5, 2026 to April 17, 2026.

The third phase of the CVR will hold between May 4, 2026 and Aug 17, 2026.
