C’River: FRSC begins campaign against number plate violation, speeding, overloading

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Command in Cross River has begun campaign against number plate violation and other road traffic offences in the state.

The Sector Commander, Innocent  Etuk, told newsmen on Friday in Calabar that the command would do everything possible to promote safe driving culture.

Etuk said that the command had commenced campaign against number plate violation, driving under alcohol influence, unregistered vehicles, speeding among others.

“This campaign is part of the command’s sustained efforts to promote responsible driving culture and safer roads,” he said.

He said that the campaign, tagged: “Special Intervention Patrol Operation” would take place across major highways and urban roads in the state effective June 29.

The FRSC official said that the operation aimed to improve road safety, reduce crashes, and ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations by motorists and other road users.

According to him, patrol teams will conduct random alcohol and psychoactive substance screening on motorists during the exercise.

“Any motorist found to be driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be detained and prosecuted.

“The aim is to strengthen traffic management, crime prevention, and road traffic security,” he said.

Speaking further, the sector commander described overloading as a major cause of vehicle instability, brake failure, tyre bursts, and fatal road crashes.

He warned transport operators and commercial drivers to desist from speeding and overloading vehicles beyond approved capacity.

Etuk urged motorists to cooperate with FRSC personnel during the campaign, and assured that the operation would be conducted professionally
