A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has issued an interim order restraining former Senate President, David Mark, and former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, from parading themselves as National Chairman and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The court also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to suspend recognition of the duo and their associates in the newly constituted National Working Committee (NWC) until the determination of a pending motion in the suit.
The case was instituted by Mr Nafiu Bala Gombe, a former Deputy National Chairman of the ADC, who is challenging INEC’s recognition of the new leadership.
Gombe insists he remains the authentic chairman of the party.
INEC had earlier updated its records to reflect Mark as Chairman and Aregbesola as Secretary following the dissolution of the previous NWC led by Chief Ralph Nwosu at the party’s 99th National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja.
The court’s ruling has now put the party’s leadership in limbo, pending the outcome of the substantive matter.
