…Warn against political opportunists
Concerned members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kogi State have pledged to resist any attempt to wrest control of the party through unconstitutional means, issuing a strong warning to political opportunists and security agencies.
At a press conference in Kabba on Wednesday, the group’s spokesperson, Usman Lukman, disclosed that credible intelligence suggested that individuals outside the party’s structures were plotting to unlawfully unseat the recognised leadership of the ADC in the state.
“Let it be clearly stated that the ADC is governed by its constitution, values, and democratic ethos,” Lukman said.
He stressed that the party in Kogi had been painstakingly built from the grassroots, sustained through sacrifice, loyalty, and discipline, and that any illegal hijack would be firmly opposed using “every legal and constitutional instrument available.”
Drawing a parallel with the collapse of the PDP, Lukman warned: “Those who recklessly destroyed the PDP cannot be allowed to invade our party and subject it to the same fate.”
Reaffirming loyalty to Chief Leke Abejide, whom he described as the “undisputed leader” of ADC in Kogi, Lukman cautioned members against recognising or associating with what he called political opportunists and “strange bedfellows” bent on destabilising the party.
He urged security agencies to act responsibly and not provide cover or legitimacy for any meetings or activities outside the control of the recognised leadership. “Any such gathering by faceless impostors is illegal, illegitimate, and a calculated attempt to breach the peace and security of Kogi,” he declared.
The group further appealed to genuine members to remain calm, vigilant, and committed to the unity and progress of the ADC, vowing to protect its political structure from those who neither share its vision nor values.
