Court grants Ex-AGF Malami, family N500m bail

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted bail to former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), his wife and son in the sum of N500 million each.
Justice Emeka Nwite, who delivered the ruling on Wednesday, ordered that each of the defendants must produce a surety with landed property located in highbrow areas of Abuja, including Asokoro, Maitama or Gwarinpa.
The court further directed that the title documents of the properties presented by the sureties be verified by the deputy chief registrar, while the sureties are also required to depose to affidavits of means.
Justice Nwite also ordered Malami and the other defendants to submit their international passports and other travel documents to the court. They were barred from travelling outside the country without prior permission of the court.
The judge said the conditions were necessary to ensure the defendants’ availability for trial.
