Couple in court for allegedly assaulting son’s school owner

The police on Tuesday arraigned a couple, Nsoha Uchenna and Nsoha Ogechukwu, before a Dutse Magistrates’ Court, Abuja for allegedly assaulting their son’s school owner, Mr Okoroaku Chinedum.

The ​‌‌⁠⁠⁠‍⁠⁠‌⁠‍⁠‍‍​‍​‌​defendants, residents of Kagini, Abuja, are standing trial on charges bordering on causing hurt and mischief, to which they, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecuting Counsel, Mrs Julianna Atinko, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Aug. 12, 2023.

Atinko said that on the said date, the defendants went to their son’s school, Hope Schools, to collect his testimonial.

She said that in the process, an argument ensued over the collection of the testimonial, resulting in the physical assault of Chinedum.

Newsmen report that the prosecuting counsel presented one Mrs Happiness Abah, an eyewitness, who testified before the court.

Abah told the court that she heard noises coming from the school premises, where Chinedum also resided.

She said that upon entering the premises, she saw the defendants physically assaulting Chinedum who was lying on the floor with a bleeding nose.

The witness said Chinedum was subsequently rushed to a hospital after he became unconscious.

She also told the court that some school furniture was destroyed during the altercation.

The offences, according to the prosecuting counsel, contravene Sections 244 and 327 of the Penal Code Law.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Alkali, adjourned the matter till Nov. 11 for further hearing.
