Businessman docked for allegedly receiving stolen property

 ​‌‌⁠⁠⁠‍⁠⁠‌⁠‍‍‍⁠⁠​‍‌A businessman, Zakariya Adamu was on Monday docked in a Dutse Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja, for allegedly receiving stolen property worth N1.5 million.

‎The police charged Adamu with receiving stolen property, contrary to Section 319 of the Penal Code Law.

‎The Prosecution Counsel, Juliana Atinko, told the court that the complainant, Nasir Musa, who lives in Gwarimpa, Abuja reported the matter at the Gwarimpa Police station on June 13.

‎Atinko said the items were stolen by Abdullahi Yusuf, a security guard to the complainant who then sold them to Adamu.

‎She said the stolen items are mattresses, a water heater, floor carpet, window curtain, wardrobe, bed frame, iron rods and a blender.

‎All the items, she said, were worth N1.5 million.

The prosecutor said during police investigation, the mattresses, a water heater, floor carpet and curtain were recovered from the defendant.

‎‎The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge.

‎The court asked the defendant if he had any reason why he should not be convicted.

‎The defendant said he had no reason and pleaded with the court for mercy, adding that the properties found in his possession had already been recovered.

‎He said the other valuables were not in his possession.

‎The Magistrate, Abudullahi Ilelah admitted him to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two reasonable and reliable sureties in like sum.

‎The Magistrate ordered that the sureties must  reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

‎He adjourned the matter until Oct. 8 for hearing.
