The average price of 5kg of cooking gas in Nigeria climbed to N8,323.95 in June 2025, reflecting a steady rise in domestic energy costs, according to new data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
This marks a 1.92% increase from the N8,167.43 recorded in May, and a significant 19.49% spike year-on-year, up from N6,966.03 in June 2024. The highest average was seen in Delta State (N9,243.38), while Oyo State recorded the lowest at N7,100.00.
Regionally, the South-South zone posted the steepest prices, averaging N8,871.63, while the South-West offered some relief with the lowest regional average of N7,960.42.
The price of 12.5kg cylinders also saw a hike, rising by 1.46% to N21,010.56, compared to N20,709.11 in May. This represents a 33.52% jump year-on-year, up from N15,736.27 in June 2024. Delta, Cross River, and Rivers led the price chart, while Yobe, Niger, and Jigawa recorded the lowest averages.
In addition to gas, kerosene prices continued their upward trend. The average cost per litre increased to N2,192.63, a 0.80% rise from May’s figure, and a 41% year-on-year increase from N1,555.11. Kaduna topped the state chart at N2,681.58, while Abia had the lowest at N1,659.35.
For kerosene sold by the gallon, the average price climbed by 2.38% to N8,684.15 in June. Edo recorded the highest at N10,321.63, while Abia again posted the lowest at N6,737.40.
The report highlights the South-South region as consistently having the highest average prices across all petroleum products, while the South-West recorded the lowest, further emphasizing the regional disparities in energy costs across the country.
