The Katsina State Government has approved ₦703 million for the reconstruction and upgrade of perimeter fencing and security barricades in 14 general hospitals located across high-risk local government areas of the state.
Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Dr Sani Magaji-Ingawa, disclosed the development in Katsina while briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting. He said the move was part of a broader strategy to safeguard healthcare workers and patients in areas vulnerable to insecurity.
The affected local government areas include Kankara, Malumfashi, Faskari, Jibia, Funtua, Kafur, Dandume, Musawa, Batsari, Dutsin-Ma, Kurfi, Danmusa, Katsina metropolis, and Amadi Rimi General Hospital.
“These upgrades form part of our administration’s comprehensive plan to fortify health institutions in volatile areas and ensure the safety of both staff and patients,” Magaji-Ingawa stated.
In another major decision, the council approved ₦1.3 billion for upgrading the Comprehensive Health Centre in Mai’adua to a full-fledged General Hospital to improve access to advanced healthcare services.
Additionally, the government earmarked ₦18.5 billion for the construction of the Rafin Iya–Tashar Bawa Sabuwa road a critical route expected to enhance security logistics, boost agricultural produce transportation, and facilitate trade in the region.
“We are taking practical steps to link communities, support farmers, and expand our internal road network for sustainable development,” the commissioner said.
Commissioner for Information and Culture, Dr Bala Salisu-Zango, also announced the approval of ₦747.3 million for a new Security Consultative Centre in Katsina. The facility will serve as a permanent venue for joint agency coordination and strategic planning among security stakeholders.
“Once completed, the centre will be handed over to the Federal Government as a central coordination hub for all security operations in Katsina State,” Salisu-Zango said.
