The Young Directors Forum (YDF), a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of the Chartered Institute of Directors (CIoD), has appointed Eyo Offiong Eyo as its new chairperson.

The appointment was confirmed during the second Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the CIoD YDF on Thursday in Lagos. Eyo succeeds Mrs. Folasade Akinmusire, whose two-year tenure as chairperson has come to an end.

Akinmusire reflected on the focus of the YDF executive committee during her tenure, highlighting their efforts to expose members to sustainability concepts and sustainability reporting to enhance their businesses. She also discussed the forum’s initiatives on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and inclusivity, designed as capacity-building mechanisms for individuals and organisations.

“We examined the challenges faced by emerging entrepreneurs, including inefficient business practices, rising staff turnover, and talent retention mechanisms,” Akinmusire said. She also noted that the forum had successfully increased its membership by nearly 80% during her time as chairperson.

Akinmusire expressed her gratitude to the institute’s president and secretariat for their unwavering support and assured the new leadership of her continued assistance.

CIoD President, Alhaji Tijjani Borodo, remarked that the event symbolised not just a leadership transition but a renewed commitment to advancing good corporate governance and ethical leadership in young directors. He encouraged YDF members to embody the institute’s core values of IMPACT—Integrity, Meritocracy, Professionalism, Accountability, Customer-Centricity, and Teamwork.

Borodo congratulated the inaugural executive committee for their pioneering efforts and emphasised the significant responsibility of the new leadership, urging them to drive initiatives that would foster collaboration among young directors, promote best practices, and support skills development in corporate governance.
