Ten young Nigerian graduates have commenced a 12-month intensive training and certification programme on Rope Access Technology, under the Human Capital Development (HCD) initiative jointly organised by Chevron Nigeria Limited and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).

The programme, which began on Wednesday at Park Royal Hotel, Warri, is designed to equip participants with technical and practical knowledge required for rope access operations in hard-to-reach areas across the oil and gas industry, both onshore and offshore.

According to the organisers, the training features five sessions of technical and non-technical modules, including classroom instruction, field practice, safety foundations, and entrepreneurship.

The trainees will also undergo workshops, mentorship, and hands-on learning in preparation for real-world technical roles in the oil and gas and maritime sectors, as well as opportunities for self-employment.

Addressing the participants during the kick-off ceremony, Mrs. Tarilate Teide-Bribena, Manager, Human Capital Development of the NCDMB, congratulated the trainees for emerging successful in the competitive screening exercise.

She reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to promoting local capacity development through targeted skill acquisition programmes.

“At the end of 12 months, we’ll be releasing competence into the industry,”
she stated, urging the trainees to remain disciplined and committed throughout the programme.

Mrs. Teide-Bribena also commended Chevron Nigeria Limited for its consistency in partnering with the Board to advance local capacity in the oil and gas industry.

“Chevron has consistently shown readiness to collaborate towards achieving our vision of building indigenous capacity within the industry,”
she added.

In his welcome remarks, Mr. Iroegbu Obiora, Nigerian Content Advisor of Chevron, described the programme as a unique opportunity for the trainees to acquire valuable skills that would distinguish them in the global energy space. He advised the participants to maintain good conduct and maximise the opportunity presented.

Mr. Obiora also commended the NCDMB for its sustained impact on human capital development through capacity-building initiatives and reaffirmed Chevron’s commitment to continued partnership.

Rope access, according to experts, is a safe and reliable method of performing maintenance or construction work at elevated or hard-to-reach positions using ropes and harnesses, often as a safer alternative to powered platforms or scaffolding.

Members of the NCDMB team present at the ceremony included Mr. Sulaiman Amolegbe, Supervisor, Human Capital Development; Ms. Ayebatari Ebiason, Officer, HCD; and Mr. Foncha Prince, Officer, Corporate Communications Division.
