Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has pledged his administration’s full support for the South-West Development Commission (SWDC), emphasising that the body will fast-track regional growth, promote youth empowerment, and address developmental disparities across the South-West.
The Governor made the remarks on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at a thanksgiving reception held in honour of Dr Jide Martins Adewinle, the newly appointed Federal Commissioner representing Ondo State in the SWDC.
The event, hosted at Adekunbi Hall, Iye Ile Resort Centre, Ode-Aye, was attended by prominent dignitaries, traditional rulers, political leaders, and well-wishers from across the country.

The statement reads, “The creation of the South-West Development Commission is a laudable step by the Federal Government to tackle developmental disparities, harness regional potential and promote sustainable growth. With the right leadership and collaboration, the Commission will serve as a veritable tool for economic revitalisation, infrastructural renewal and social transformation in our region.
“Over the years, Dr Adewinle has demonstrated exceptional commitment to community development, youth empowerment and professionalism. His appointment will further project Ondo State as a reservoir of capable hands, men and women who can stand tall anywhere in service to our nation. Leadership is stewardship imbued with humility, inclusiveness and vision.
“Let your service reflect the diligence, integrity and accountability that have defined your journey thus far. The expectations are high, but I am confident that with God on your side and the support of our people, you will make Ondo proud. Our administration will continue to collaborate with the Commission to enhance regional integration, agricultural development, industrialisation and youth empowerment, all key pillars of our development agenda.”
Governor Aiyedatiwa commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing the SWDC, describing it as a timely intervention to address centralised development challenges and unlock the South-West’s economic potential. He said the Commission would serve as a platform to revitalise infrastructure, promote industrialisation, and expand opportunities for youths in the region.
Dr Jide Martins Adewinle, in his response, thanked God, President Tinubu, and Governor Aiyedatiwa for the opportunity to serve.
He promised to justify the confidence reposed in him and outlined the SWDC’s mission to drive regional development through education, welfare, infrastructure, and economic empowerment.
Adewinle highlighted that the establishment of the Commission continues the visionary blueprint of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, noting that it aims to position the South-West as a model of unity, innovation, and economic prosperity.
He stated, “What President Tinubu has done with the establishment of this Commission is a continuation of Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s dream for a prosperous South-West, a region that thrives on unity, innovation and development. The Commission will rekindle that legacy by driving growth in education, welfare, and infrastructure.”
He further explained that region-focused initiatives would tackle centralisation challenges, boost economic fortunes, and create employment opportunities for citizens across the states.
Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government, Andrew Ogunsakin expressed appreciation to Governor Aiyedatiwa for approving a 5km road project in the council area. He also commended the governor for multiple ongoing projects across the state that are transforming communities and improving livelihoods.
The thanksgiving reception drew several high-profile attendees, including the Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abayomi Gbegudu, representing Speaker Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prince Olusegun Omojuwa; former Deputy Governor, Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo; Commissioner for Education, Prof. Femi Ajibefun; and Commissioner for Water Resources, Mr Ayodele Akande.
Traditional rulers present included Oba George Babatunde Faduyile, Adegun II, Abodi of Ikale; Oba Michael Adetoye Obatuga, Jegun of Idepe; Oba William Akinmusayo Akinlade, Halu of Ode-Aye; and Oba Joseph Moronfoye Okunlola-Oni, representative of the Ooni of Ife. Also present were Mr Timothy Olubisi Ayenuyo, MD/CEO of Mega Chicken, and former Nigerian Ambassador to Togo, Ambassador Sola Iji.
