Sixteen members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, including Speaker Martin Amaewhule, have announced their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmakers formalised their move during Friday’s plenary, where Speaker Amaewhule read their letters of defection. He said the decision was driven by what he described as a deep and irreconcilable division within the PDP in the state.

Their defection marks a major political shift in the Rivers Assembly and adds a new dimension to the state’s already tense political climate.
