A major crisis has erupted in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the faction loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, announced the expulsion of several senior party figures.
In a statement released on Thursday and signed by the faction’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the group said the affected members had been stripped of all recognition within the party.
The notice named Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, among others, as no longer valid members of the PDP.
According to the faction, their expulsion was approved during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on 18 November 2025.
The statement accused the expelled officials of anti-party conduct and gross misconduct, insisting that the disciplinary actions were in accordance with the party’s constitution.
It warned the public not to engage with or recognise any of the individuals as PDP representatives, adding that anyone who does so “acts at his or her own risk.”
The Wike-backed faction also rejected the recent convention held in Ibadan, describing it as politically motivated and without legal weight.
The statement said that the convention did not comply with court judgments and that any person claiming to have been elected a national officer at the event should be regarded as an impostor.
“This decision is a necessary measure to safeguard the integrity of the party,” the faction said, reinforcing its control amid the ongoing leadership struggle within the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
