In a bid to strengthen grassroots education and boost youth employment, the Birniwa Local Government Council in Jigawa State has flagged off a four-day capacity-building workshop for 204 personnel under the ‘B-Teach’ scheme.
The training, held at the Sarkin Arewa Junior Secondary School, Birniwa, is designed to align with the twelve-point agenda of the Jigawa State Governor, His Excellency Umar Namadi, specifically targeting educational development and job creation.
Declaring the workshop open, the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Haruna Musa, commended the local council for its proactive approach to education.
He described the workshop as a demonstration of a strong commitment to human capital development at the local level.
Prof. Musa expressed satisfaction with the caliber of participants—comprising holders of Degrees and National Certificates in Education (NCE)—and charged them to maximize the opportunity to master modern teaching methodologies for effective classroom delivery.
In his keynote address, the Executive Chairman of Birniwa Local Government Council, Hon. Shehu Baba Birniwa, urged the participants to execute their duties with fairness, justice, and dedication.
Hon. Birniwa announced a significant incentive for the trainees, assuring that outstanding B-Teach staff would be recommended for permanent appointments during the state government’s upcoming confirmation exercise for the J-Teach (Jigawa Teach) scheme.
He reaffirmed the council’s resolve to prioritize the welfare and professional growth of educators in the area.
Beyond human capital development, the council has also invested heavily in infrastructure. During the event, the SUBEB Chairman praised Hon. Birniwa for the ongoing rehabilitation of nine classrooms at the Special Primary School, Birniwa.
Speaking earlier, the Acting Education Secretary, Muhammad Zakar Birniwa, and the Project Coordinator, Jibrin Ibrahim Nasallah (Kura), revealed that the council chairman had committed over ₦20 million to the rehabilitation project.
They described the investment as a landmark achievement in the local education sector and called on other political representatives to emulate such initiatives.
Following the opening ceremony, the SUBEB Executive Chairman inspected the ongoing rehabilitation works at the Special Primary School. He assured stakeholders that the board would sustain regular monitoring of teacher performance across both primary and junior secondary schools to ensure quality assurance.
The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Birniwa Local Government Area, Hon. Haruna A. Bura, alongside members of the School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) and other senior council officials.
