The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) Plc has onboarded over 70 new staff to fill gaps created by exiting personnel and maintain a stable workforce across its operational areas.

Acting Managing Director, Mr Jonathan Lawani, disclosed this to journalists on Thursday in Benin, adding that the company is set to sign its long-anticipated Condition of Service document on 31 July.

Lawani described the agreement as a major milestone for employee welfare, stating that it establishes transparent employment terms, career development pathways, and comprehensive staff benefits. He noted that the document, finalised after extensive consultations, has been fully ratified by BEDC’s board of directors.

“This landmark document, to be signed on 31 July, signifies a turning point in our employee engagement and policy framework. It reflects management’s commitment to implementing staff-centred, performance-oriented, and reward-based organisational reforms,” he said.

Under the renewed leadership of the past three months, Lawani explained, BEDC has made notable strides in improving staff experience and operational efficiency.

He rejected claims of misinformation regarding the company’s ongoing reforms, asserting that BEDC has moved beyond outdated practices with a clear focus on employee motivation, enhanced service delivery, and the cultivation of a skilled, efficient workforce.

“To strengthen field operations, top-performing linesmen and DSSOs have been selected for fully funded training sessions in Lagos and Abuja, aimed at sharpening their safety and technical expertise. Operational support across our franchise has also improved through fresh funding, new vehicles, upgraded tools, and enhanced logistics.

“Material supply processes have been redesigned with proactive warehousing to accelerate procurement, minimise delays, and ensure faster response to customer needs,” Lawani said.

He reaffirmed BEDC’s dedication to professional development, staff welfare, and excellence in service delivery, adding: “These commitments are no longer aspirational. They are being implemented and experienced by our workforce at every level of operations.”

Lawani encouraged the public to disregard false information, stressing that the progress achieved will not be undermined by attempts to derail the reforms.

“BEDC leadership remains focused, transparent, and grateful for the resilience and dedication of its employees in providing improved outcomes for customers,” he said.

He further assured that the company will continue upgrading working conditions, expanding incentive schemes, and fostering a safe and inclusive workplace for all staff.
