ASUU LAUTECH demands implementation of 2025 agreement, payment of staff entitlements

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) branch, has called on the Oyo State Government to urgently commence the full implementation of the December 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement at the institution.
The union also demanded the payment of outstanding staff entitlements, including Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) and arrears of promotion.
In a statement by the Chairperson of ASUU LAUTECH, Prof. Olujimi Dada, and Secretary, Dr Soji Arinola, the union said the agreement was signed in December 2025 after years of negotiations between the Federal Government and ASUU.
According to the union, provisions requiring domestication at LAUTECH were processed and approved by the University’s Governing Council and communicated to the Visitor to the institution.
ASUU said the issue was therefore not the existence of the agreement but the need for its full implementation, adding that the financial implications had already been submitted to the Oyo State Government.
The union said it had made several efforts to engage the state government through formal and informal channels to resolve the matter, stressing that it preferred dialogue to industrial action.
It, however, expressed concern that its repeated appeals had not produced the desired result.
The union also said academic staff at LAUTECH continued to teach, supervise students, conduct research and sustain the academic calendar despite funding constraints, outstanding entitlements and inadequate teaching and research facilities.
It noted that the university had continued to receive national recognition, attributing such achievements to the commitment and dedication of its workforce.
ASUU further said some outstanding staff entitlements, particularly promotion arrears and portions of the Earned Academic Allowance, dated back several years.
The union maintained that the outstanding payments were entitlements arising from work already performed and should not be treated as discretionary benefits.
ASUU warned that continued non-implementation of the agreement and accumulation of unpaid entitlements could threaten industrial harmony and eventually disrupt academic activities.
The union appealed to the Oyo State Government to commence full implementation of the December 2025 agreement, direct the LAUTECH Governing Council to develop a sustainable framework for addressing funding and staff welfare challenges, and prevent issues from escalating into industrial action.
It also called on traditional institutions, religious bodies, alumni, students, parents, professional associations, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to support efforts to resolve the matter.
The union urged the Oyo State Governor to intervene personally and urgently, stressing that its preferred option remained dialogue, negotiation and peaceful resolution.
ASUU LAUTECH said it sought implementation rather than promises, sustainable funding rather than temporary relief, and industrial harmony rather than industrial action.
