Amaechi should have consulted me before contesting against Atiku — Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that his longtime associate and former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, should have consulted him before entering the race against former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket.

Speaking during a monthly media chat in Abuja, Wike reflected on the strategic missteps in Nigerian politics that led to Amaechi’s recent loss at the party’s primary.

Wike recalled how he immediately sensed trouble when Amaechi joined the race for the ADC’s 2027 presidential ticket.

According to him, the party’s leadership structure already revealed the likely outcome, noting that the presence of former Senate President David Mark in a key position convinced him that the process would ultimately favor Atiku Abubakar.

“Amaechi is my brother,” Wike told reporters. “If he had asked me, I would have advised him not to enter.”

The Minister argued that Amaechi underestimated the political realities around him, believing that growing public criticism of the current administration had encouraged many politicians to rush into alliances without carefully studying the internal dynamics of the political terrain.
