The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced its intention to appeal the judgment delivered by Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, which on Wednesday, 16 July 2025, acquitted and discharged former Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayo Fayose, of alleged money laundering charges.

Fayose was re-arraigned by the EFCC on 2 July 2019 alongside his company, Spotless Investment Limited, on an 11-count charge relating to money laundering and theft involving ₦6.9 billion.

In a statement issued shortly after the ruling, the Commission confirmed that it is currently reviewing the court’s decision and has begun the process of filing an appeal.

“The Commission is studying the ruling and has instructed its counsel to initiate appeal proceedings,” the statement read.

Reiterating its commitment to upholding the rule of law, the EFCC assured the public that it would pursue all legal avenues to ensure justice is served.
