Akwa Ibom state Governor Umo Eno has announced that Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will officially commission the Akwa Ibom State Geriatric Centre branded as the ARISE Elderly Citizens Centre on Saturday, March 7, 2026.

Disclosing this during the Government House Monthly Covenant Service, the Governor highlighted that the event marks the First Lady’s debut official visit to the state, coinciding with the grand finale of a statewide women’s sensitization and economic empowerment tour.

Located within the strategic ARISE Medical Corridor along the Uyo–Ikot Ekpene Road, the facility is specifically designed to provide specialized healthcare and recreational spaces for senior citizens aged 65 and above.

Governor Eno praised the state’s women for their robust engagement in recent economic mobilization efforts and relayed the First Lady’s commendations for their active role in the state’s development.

Beyond healthcare, the Governor unveiled a suite of aggressive infrastructure and aviation milestones.

To bolster the state’s signature airline, Ibom Air, the government is set to take delivery of two new Airbus aircraft later this year. This fleet expansion aligns with ongoing upgrades at Victor Attah International Airport, which is being prepared to commence international flight operations in April.

The administration’s ARISE agenda is also making significant inroads into maritime and commercial sectors.

Governor Eno revealed that a new jetty is under construction in Oron to restore its historical status as a commercial hub, while full-scale work is set to begin on the Ikot Ekpene International Market.

On the fiscal front, the Governor issued a stern directive regarding the Treasury Single Account (TSA), warning all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) that non-compliance with the unified payment system will not be tolerated.

Addressing political and spiritual themes, the Governor noted that the era of political oath-taking has been effectively ended by the new electoral law’s removal of special delegates.

He called for peaceful participation in the upcoming State Congress of the ruling party on March 3, 2026.

The service concluded with a sermon by Pastor Umar Idris Enoch of the RCCG, who urged the congregation to maintain faith in El-Shaddai for divine guidance over the state’s ambitious projects.
