Aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom have accused Governor Umo Eno of systematically taking over the party’s structures across the state, sidelining founding members.
In an open letter to President Bola Tinubu on Sunday, the Akwa Ibom APC Aborigines Forum alleged that the governor established a 33-member “War Council” composed mainly of politicians who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
The forum claimed this council was created to execute Eno’s political agenda for 2027, effectively marginalising original party members.
The forum’s national coordinator, Chief Okon Essien, and state secretary, Ekemini Udo, criticised Senate President Godswill Akpabio for remaining silent on the issue.
They described the council as a “shadow government” within the APC, designed to manipulate party machinery and replace aboriginal members at ward, chapter, and state levels with loyalists of the governor.
“Our structures built with sweat, courage, and sacrifice are now being methodically hijacked,” the letter stated. “We cannot allow strangers to take over our house while our own leader watches from a distance.”
The forum urged President Tinubu to intervene to protect the interests of the party’s founding members in Akwa Ibom.
