Former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, has indicated plans to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), sources said on Sunday.
In a statement released by his Personal Assistant, Emmanuel Hangeior, Suswam, who is currently facing N3.1 billion fraud charges from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), said the defection reflects his readiness to collaborate with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, and Governor Hyacinth Alia to ensure Benue State maximises benefits from federal initiatives.
“The time has come for Benue leaders to close ranks and put the people first,” the statement said, emphasising a shift from partisan politics to people-focused governance.
The former two-term governor stressed that cooperation with the Federal Government is crucial to addressing Benue’s pressing issues, including insecurity, unemployment, and poor infrastructure.
Suswam’s move comes weeks after he had vowed not to leave the PDP, marking a significant political shift in the state.
