Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the former First Lady of Ondo State, has officially announced her membership in the Labour Party (LP).
This move, which marks a departure from her previous political associations, was formalized in her home state of Imo, where she has also declared her intention to contest for a seat in the Nigerian Senate.
Mrs. Anyanwu-Akeredolu confirmed the development through a social media update on Tuesday, revealing her active participation in the party’s recent high-level administrative functions.
She disclosed that she attended the Labour Party’s National Executive Council (NEC) and stakeholders meeting held in Abuja on March 17, 2026.
Describing the atmosphere of the gathering, the former First Lady noted that the event saw an overwhelming turnout of party faithful, to the extent that the venue struggled to accommodate the surge of participants and stakeholders.
Her entry into the race is expected to intensify the political contest in Imo State, as her name carries significant national weight and a track record of advocacy in women’s health and empowerment.
By aligning with the LP, Anyanwu-Akeredolu appears to be positioning herself within a party that has gained substantial traction among the youth and reform-minded electorate, signaling a new chapter in her political career centered on her roots in Imo State.
