The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued criticised the President Bola Tinubu led administration following the release of the 2026 Global Terrorism Index (GTI), which ranks Nigeria as the fourth most terrorism-affected nation globally.
The ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi characterized the ranking as a definitive verdict of failure regarding the current government’s ability to maintain national security.
The party highlighted a significant escalation in violence, noting that recorded attacks rose from 120 in 2024 to 171 in 2025.
Borno State remains the primary flashpoint, accounting for 67% of all attacks and 72% of fatalities.
Most concerning to the ADC is the vulnerability of the populace, as civilians now represent 67% of those killed in these incidents.
In a statement, the ADC condemned the perceived absentee leadership of President Tinubu and his security team, noting their presence abroad during periods of domestic crisis.
The party warned that the emergence of new insurgent groups like Lakurawa, alongside the persistence of ISWAP and Boko Haram, signals an evolving threat that the government is failing to contain.
To address these lapses, the ADC proposed a structural overhaul of the national security architecture, including the establishment of a mandated national intelligence coordination system and the decentralization of the police force to the community level.
