Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has debunked reports suggesting he is planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Mr Olawale Rasheed, on Wednesday, the governor described the speculation as a deliberate plot by political rivals who fear his rising popularity ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
He said: “Our attention has been drawn to a report that Governor Ademola Adeleke is planning to join the African Democratic Congress, ADC. The report is not only untrue but a calculated attempt by those afraid of the Governor’s soaring acceptability to create confusions and uncertainty in the minds of the people of Osun State.
“We want to reiterate for the umpteenth time that Governor Adeleke remains committed to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and has no plan whatsoever to join the ADC or any party for that matter.”
Governor Adeleke also reaffirmed his commitment to contesting the 2026 election on the platform of the PDP, stressing that the party machinery was already mobilising grassroots support to secure his re-election.
He urged residents of Osun State to disregard the defection rumours and remain focused on the administration’s development agenda.
