The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed reports claiming that the Federal High Court in Abuja issued an injunction barring its National Chairman, Senator David Mark, and National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, from carrying out their duties.

In a statement released on Thursday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Bolaji Abdullahi, described the reports as fabricated stories pushed by political opportunists who had earlier failed to prevent the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising the new leadership.

Abdullahi explained that Justice Emeka Nwite, in a ruling delivered on 4 September 2025, rejected the ex-parte application filed by a self-proclaimed factional chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe, and instead directed that the defendants be formally notified.

The court further ordered the defendants to appear and show cause why the application should not be granted, adjourning the matter to 15 September 2025.

Quoting the court’s position, Abdullahi clarified: “Contrary to some misleading publications, the court did not issue any order restraining Senator David Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola from functioning as the National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC, respectively. Rather, the Honourable Court declined the ex-parte application brought by Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe and directed that the matter proceed with due process.”

The ADC accused what it called “agents of destabilisation” of deliberately twisting the ruling in an attempt to create confusion.

“Having failed to stop INEC from acknowledging the leadership change in ADC, the political jobbers are now resorting to fake news. This demonstrates that these agents of destabilisation will stop at nothing, including misrepresenting court rulings, in their desperate efforts to undermine opposition parties,” the statement continued.

The party called on Nigerians and the media to remain vigilant and ensure due verification of information before circulation so as not to give credence to false claims.
