5 injured as trucks collide on Lagos-Ibadan expressway

Five people have been injured in a late-night road crash involving two trucks along the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway near Foursquare Camp.

The accident, which occurred around 10:17 p.m. on Monday, involved a black CNHTC HOWO truck loaded with iron rods and bearing registration number TTD-145ZY, as well as an unregistered white Sinotruck conveying unidentified materials.

According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, Odunsi Afolabi, the crash was attributed to speed violations and loss of control.

He noted that seven adult males were involved in the incident, with no fatalities recorded, but five sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Afolabi explained that three of the injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, shortly after the crash, while two others who were trapped in the wreckage were later rescued and also transported to the same hospital for treatment.

He added that recovery efforts are ongoing, with the two trucks still entangled and requiring heavy-duty cranes for separation.

To facilitate the operation and ensure safety, the Ibadan-Lagos carriageway has been temporarily closed, with traffic diverted at Alapako Bridge to share the Lagos-Ibadan lane. Although FRSC officials have created a corridor to ease congestion, significant delays are expected as recovery continues.

Meanwhile, the Ogun Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, has urged motorists to remain patient, obey traffic rules, and comply with directives from officers managing the situation.

He also advised road users to explore alternative routes until normal traffic flow is restored.
