A 27-year-old man, Gbenga Ajibola, was on Tuesday arraigned before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing an Infinix phone valued at N80,000.

The defendant, who has no fixed address, is charged with stealing, unlawful transfer and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 11 at about 8.00 p.m. at Oko-Afo Bus Stop, Badagry Expressway, Lagos.

Ekpo alleged that the defendant stole an Infinix phone valued at N80,000 belonging to one Timothy Akanbi, the complainant.

He said the defendant unlawfully transferred N20,000 from the complainant’s phone.

“The defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by stealing the complainant’s phone.

“He was later caught by members of the public and handed over to the police for prosecution.

“The offences contravened Sections 168, 287 and 308 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015,” he said.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He said one of the sureties must be a community leader.

Layeni adjourned the case until April 30 for mention.
