…Defectors cite hunger, insecurity, economic collapse under APC as key triggers

In a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Support Groups led by Ismaila Abu Ishaq have officially collapsed their structure in favour of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, declaring President Bola Tinubu’s government a failure on all fronts.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja on Thursday shortly after visiting Atiku’s residence, Ishaq, a former member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, announced the formation of a new political platform called the Coalition for Project Rescue Nigeria 2027, describing it as “a national salvation effort.”

He said the group’s decision was driven by the worsening insecurity, widespread hunger, poverty, economic hardship, and collapse of basic governance structures under the Tinubu-led APC administration.

According to him, “We are aligning with a tested, credible and visionary leader who has the competence and experience to rescue this country from the current mess. The APC has failed. Nigerians are suffering. The entire system is broken.”

He said the new coalition was born out of a collective desire to take back the country from what he called “a dangerous trajectory” under the ruling party.

“The Coalition for Project Rescue Nigeria 2027 will not just be a campaign vehicle, but a national salvation effort to ensure that Nigeria returns to the days of unity, progress and prosperity,” Ishaq said.

He also praised the performance of the Obasanjo-Atiku administration, saying it laid a foundation for national development which has now been squandered.

In his reaction, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar warmly welcomed the new coalition and commended its bold decision to join the push to reclaim Nigeria’s democratic and economic stability.

Atiku lamented the current state of the country and blamed the APC-led administration for failing to protect Nigerians from hunger, joblessness, and rising insecurity.

“It pains me to see the strong economy bequeathed by successive PDP administrations frittered away by the Tinubu-led APC government,” Atiku said.

He pledged to support and mentor the coalition, especially young Nigerians who are determined to rescue the country from decline.

“The future belongs to the youth. We must not lose this moment. It is time to reclaim Nigeria, restore dignity, and rebuild a nation that works for everyone,” Atiku added.
