2027: Peter Obi meets Obasanjo

The 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi has met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Wednesday as political consultations and realignments continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general election.

The meeting came to light after photographs from the visit were shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Obi’s campaign photographer, Esther Umoh.

In the photographs, Obi was seen wearing a blue traditional outfit alongside Obasanjo, who wore a white native attire with a blue patterned cap. A Catholic bishop was also present with the two leaders in several of the photos.

The interaction took place across multiple settings, with some images captured outdoors and others inside Obasanjo’s residence.

However, neither Obi nor Obasanjo has issued an official statement regarding the purpose of the meeting or disclosed the details of their discussions.

The visit comes at a time when Obasanjo’s political alignment ahead of the 2027 election continues to draw significant public interest.

The Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum recently alleged that the former President was quietly backing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The claim was swiftly refuted by Obasanjo’s former Political Adviser, Akin Osuntokun, who stated that the former President remains supportive of an opposition coalition featuring Obi and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Speaking on ARISE Television, Osuntokun said, “If you can say that Obasanjo is supporting any ticket, it is the Peter Obi-Kwankwaso ticket. As a matter of fact, he is the principal sponsor of that ticket.”
