Accord Party planning protest to call for removal of Osun REC — APC alleges

The Osun All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has alleged plans by members of the Accord Party to stage a protest during the official visit of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Ojo Amupitan, to Osun State today.

In a statement signed by the Head of Media and Publicity Committee of the Campaign, Engr Oluremi Omowaiye, the APC Campaign claimed it had received intelligence suggesting that some members of the Accord Party were planning to organize a protest aimed at disrupting the INEC Chairman’s stakeholder engagement and calling for the removal of the State Resident Electoral Commissioner.

The party further alleged that the protest was being sponsored by Yeyeluwa Dupe Adeleke, elder sister of Governor Ademola Adeleke, and claimed that the demonstration would involve women to be dressed half naked and populate them with hoodlums to be mobilised from Ede and Osogbo to disrupt the event.

According to the statement, “the APC Governorship Campaign Council wishes to draw the attention of security agencies, election stakeholders, and the general public to a planned protest scheduled to coincide with the visit of the INEC Chairman to Osun State.”

“The Council received credible intelligence alleging that the protest is intended to create confusion during the stakeholder engagement and undermine public confidence in the electoral process. Our sources allege that the protest would involve women and political thugs who could attempt to disrupt the Chairman’s engagements and create scenes capable of generating unnecessary tension and controversy ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election.”

“The information available to us suggests that the objective is to cast doubt on the credibility of the electoral process and create an atmosphere of uncertainty in the state. The Council therefore calls on all security agencies to provide adequate security at all venues to be visited by the INEC Chairman and to ensure that law-abiding citizens and stakeholders are able to participate in the engagement without intimidation or disruption.”

“We also urge all political parties and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and in accordance with the law. Democracy thrives on peaceful political participation, and no individual or group should be allowed to undermine the integrity of the electoral process as a result of anticipating defeat that is steering at them.”

The Council reaffirmed its commitment to a peaceful, credible, and transparent governorship election and urged all stakeholders to place the interests of Osun State above partisan considerations.
