The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has vehemently dismissed claims by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that it will reclaim power in the state in the 2027 elections, branding the assertion as a baseless and unrealistic political fantasy.
The response came after comments credited to the Ogun PDP Chairman, Abayomi Tella, who, in a recent media interaction, criticised the APC government’s performance and expressed confidence that the opposition party would dislodge the ruling party in the next gubernatorial contest.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Ogun APC State Publicity Secretary Nuberu Adesanya Olufemi rejected Tella’s claims, calling them hypocritical and symptomatic of a party struggling with direction and relevance.
He said: “The notion that the PDP will take over Ogun State in 2027 is pure political hallucination. This is a party still trapped in outdated political culture, prioritising personal ambition over party ideology, governance, and constitutional order.”
Olufemi accused the PDP of hypocrisy, citing its previous tenure in Ogun State as being marked by misappropriation of public funds, abandoned road projects, declining education standards, and a collapsed healthcare system.
“It is remarkable that a party whose record in office is associated with mismanagement and failure now lectures others on progressive governance,” he added.
The APC further argued that the PDP’s challenges are nationwide, noting that internal crises have left the opposition projecting its failures onto a party with a record of thriving governance.
Highlighting APC’s achievements, Olufemi said, “Unlike the PDP, the APC has built a solid foundation of ideas, strong internal democratic traditions, and a visionary constitution, which continue to deliver tangible results for the people of Ogun State.”
In a pointed remark, he suggested that the PDP chairman might benefit from joining the APC to gain ideological training and grassroots political experience, starting from the local government level.
